Individuals may also qualify if they have certain professional certifications recognized by the SEC


Or if they are considered a knowledgeable employee of the fund. 

For example, investors who hold FINRA's Series 7, Series 65, or Series 82 designations are considered accredited investors. 

In the US, an individual can qualify as an accredited investor if they meet one of the following criteria: Income Individuals must have earned more than $200,000 in each of the last two years, or more than $300,000 with a spouse, and reasonably expect to earn the same in the current year. Net worth Individuals must have a net worth of more than $1 million, either individually or with a spouse, excluding the value of their primary residence. 

Net worth is calculated by subtracting liabilities from assets, which include cash, investments, real estate, and vehicles. Debt secured by the primary residence, such as a mortgage or home equity line of credit, is usually not counted as a liability if the home's estimated fair market value is higher than the debt.
